11 Tips to Transform Environment Efficiently, Practically, and in Style

The search for the integration of environments in the open concept is one of the main reasons for apartment renovations. Who doesn’t like to obtain their home more beautiful and functional? However, before starting a reform, even a simple one, it is necessary to carefully evaluate aspects such as costs, deadlines, and what changes are desired. To contribute to this significant moment, the architects Paula Passos and Danielle Dantas, from the Dantas & Passos Architecture Office, prepared a series of recommendations for those looking to transform the décor with a renovation whether significant or minor changes.

1- First steps

For the renovation, especially in old apartments, it is essential to start with the structural part. Thus, the recommendation is to divide the work into two steps. In the first phase, it will be necessary to verify the property’s bases, as well as its electrical and hydraulic installations, look for cracks, in addition to evaluating whether it will be required to break down walls and make waterproofing on site.

“After that, then it will be time to think about the decoration itself. All with prior planning and seeking to ensure that the renovation meets the needs of residents both aesthetically and functionally,” says Paula Passos.

2- Electricity points

Changing your home’s coatings requires attention and care, but the result is worth it.

Apartments built in the past did not have the same demand for electricity points compared to what is needed today. So, in addition to increasing the number of issues, both the light frame and the entire wiring must be redone according to the new reality to avoid overloads or shorts.

3- Coatings

For those thinking of changing coatings, especially in wet areas, the ideal is that all old piping is changed and overhauled beforehand, together with waterproofing, preventing clogging and leaks.

4- Painting

The use of colors transformed the decor of this children’s room.

“Painting the house is one of the main ways to change the look quickly and. In this way, there is nothing better than mixing the tones that are trends of the moment, with the general concept of the property”, says Danielle Dantas.

It is essential to choose the type of ink correctly. For indoor environments, the recommendation is for latex or PVA paint for ceilings and walls, quick-drying and water-based. For wooden doors and windows, the ideal is to bet on synthetic enamels with a satin finish. For internal plaster ceilings, it is worth using an excellent base before the final painting. When it comes to painting environments with wet areas, epoxy paint is very indicated.

5- Wallpaper

According to the architects, the wallpaper is also a great choice, as it has the enormous power to transform environments quickly, without mess or breakage. It looks good everywhere, even on the ceiling! As of current technology, there is a vast range of options on the market. There are also stickers developed for wet areas, which can even decorate bathrooms.

6- Drywall

Investing in drywall can be a faster and cleaner way to transform environments or even build a new space. Among its advantages, it is a lighter material with less thickness than conventional masonry, which can be internally soundproofed to provide more privacy. Drywall can also be used in wet areas (such as bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms) through specific sheets with protection.

7- Lighting

Lighting must be planned and directed along with other aspects of the project even before construction begins. An environment with the correct lights will transmit feelings of well-being to residents and contribute to the activities needed for daily life, whether studying, cooking, or meditating.

8- Living room

In small apartments, integrating environments, such as living rooms, TV and dining, balcony, and kitchen can bring more amplitude to the property. However, for those who want to make small changes without breaking the bank, the tip is to bet on the exchange or addition of elements, as some examples:

– Set up a corner for portable alcohol or bio gel fireplace

– Play with pillows of different colors and patterns

– Apply a new hem or a new decorative shawl to the existing curtain

– Green vertical walls or potted plants to bring nature closer

– Bet on charming decorative lighting

9- Bedrooms

The headboard that goes to the ceiling added even more to the room’s decoration.

For those looking for practicality, it is possible to keep the neutral bases that already exist in the room and work with a beautiful composition of paintings and well-placed rugs. A good idea is also to bet on a charming headboard to highlight the decor. Changing the fabrics of pillows and curtains can creatively dress spaces. In wooden cabinets, desks, or TV panels, use colored lacquer paint to transform them.

10- Bathrooms

To facilitate the renovation, several materials can be glued and applied over other pre-existing coverings. However, as mentioned above, it is essential to check that your bases are in good condition (no fluffy or loose tiles, for example). Today, there are porcelain tiles only 3 mm thick on the market, which can be applied on other floors without problems in the height of thresholds or doors.

11- Work records

The reform must be accompanied by a specialized professional. It is also recommended that you keep a record of everything that has been modified and improved during the process. Thus, in the case of a future property sale, this factor will significantly enhance it.
