10 Tips for Choosing Paint Colors to Paint the House

And what colors to choose to paint the walls of the house? Whether it’s a small remodeling of a room or because they want to change the entire decor, it’s important to select the right colors to achieve the ideal decorative effect. The color of the walls must be something very well thought out as it is one of the most important decorative decisions to take when deciding to decorate a house.

Although there are countless possibilities of paint colors available, it is very important that when selecting the colors for the walls, they feel that these tones are in accordance with the environment they want to create, as getting the right ambience depends 90% on the color. However, there is not always an inflexible rule, sometimes doubt can give rise to creativity and even a surprisingly positive end result. To have extra help in choosing colors for the living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom.

1- First think of classic colors

A calm and soft decor environment is achieved with classic colors such as earth tones in complementary tones with a natural effect. A room painted in a monochromatic color with several variations of the same color (3 variations ideally at most) is timeless. For a natural and calm environment, the floor should not be contrasting, but complementary, like the furniture in the room.

2- North or South?

The division to be painted is facing which cardinal point? If it faces north, the incidence of light is much lower, so it’s a good idea to choose a color that reflects the light: green and yellow tones are especially suitable. If the room faces south, the natural light is likely to be much greater, so they can select much darker colors.

3- Warm or cold environment?

Colors can be considered warm or cool. Red, yellow, orange, pink are warm colors; blue, green, violet are considered cool colors. It all depends on the type of environment you want to create. If you want a warm environment, but don’t really like orange, choose a color considered warm and then, in a monochromatic perspective, see what are the different color variations available (adding more white or blacker) and you can reach a color of a hue that nor would they be considering. For this they go to a paint store and ask for color variation catalogs.

4- Choose the right white

If you intend to paint one or several walls white, choose the right white. The different shades of white that are available on the market, amazingly enough, have in their composition countless other colors; so always ask what is the highest percentage of color in that shade of white, that percentage will give you an indication if that shade of white is warm or cold, and if it matches the rest of the decoration.

5- Test the color

Buy a small sample of the paint and paint some of the wall; don’t just rely on the colors in the paint catalogs, they are similar to the final result, but everything varies with the light that falls on the painted wall. Paint about a square meter of one of the walls of the room and let it dry as the color always tends to get darker after it dries. Afterwards, observe the color during the day, and at night with artificial lighting to see if it is really the ideal result.

6- Paint the door and window frames in the same color

To achieve a subtle environment where the eye doesn’t stop at anything, they should paint the window and door frames, as well as the back of the doors, in the same shade as the walls.

7- Create contrasts

If you want to create an environment where the furniture stands out, then choose neutral colors for the walls. To achieve this you just need to check which color contrasts the most – you can find this on the color wheel and see what the complementary colors are.

8- Look at the ceiling

The ceiling can make a lot of difference, as a ceiling painted in a darker color than the walls will make the room look lower; a ceiling painted in a lighter color than the walls will give the feeling of a higher room, and finally, a ceiling painted in the same color as the walls will convey a feeling of harmony and continuity to the room.

9- Paint the hoops white

The most common thing in most homes is for the door and window frames to be wood or painted in darker tones; however, to give a fresh feeling to the room, paint them white. The white of the rims will give the place a very elegant purity tone. In addition, it will bring out the colors of the walls, as well as the furniture.

10- Choose a nice paint color

If in doubt, opt for a simple and calm color. Blue in lighter tones is great for creating a calm place, and nothing like a calm house to accompany a harmonious life. Even if blue isn’t your favorite color, it’s almost always a safe color, and pleasing to both a man’s and a woman’s eyes. In reality it is the most widely accepted color, considering that white is not really a color.

Choosing the colors of paints to paint the house only depends on the final effect you want to achieve: contrast, high ceilings, feeling of calm or energy, emphasize furniture, etc… know what environment you want to create and it will be much easier select the colors of the walls of your home.
